BAILA SOCIETY

BAILA Society is a dance and theater company that showcases Afro-Latinx dance and music heritage through its international repertory company, online dance academy, live classes, community events, and cultural preservation efforts. BAILA Society’s Artistic Director, Ahtoy Juliana, has created numerous works for the company that have been featured in international dance festivals, musical revues, TV, and film. Through Ahtoy’s pioneering work in Afro-Latinx dance education, competition, and choreography, BAILA Society has successfully trained countless professional dancers, instructors, world champions, and other industry leaders. Ahtoy is also working on promoting the heritage of Latin Hustle in Latinx communities by archiving the experiences of the queer Latinx youth who pioneered the dance in the 1970’s. BAILA Society hosts and produces community events and dance showcases for non-profit efforts, such as the Latino Commission on AIDS, the YAI Network for children with disabilities, the American Liver Foundation, the Jorge Posada Foundation, and in·corpus. BAILA Society is committed to creating a safer and braver space for everyone to explore connection through social dancing. We use a gender-neutral approach to partner dancing and work under the guidance of community organizations like Safer Dance Spaces and Not Just Chisme to prevent and address sexual misconduct and sex-based discrimination.
