BIOGRAPHY

MARIJKE ELIASBERG, native of the Netherlands, Founder and Co-Artistic Director of The Next Stage Project (TNSP), has been dancing, teaching and choreographing for the past 25 years in New York City. With TNSP, she travels around the world, teaching, creating, mentoring and making exchange and performance projects possible. Marijke holds a BFA in physical education with a specialization in dance. She continued her modern dance studies at the Rotterdam Dance Academy (Codarts) in The Netherlands and Dance Space Inc in NYC.

Her continuing education, which includes studying Yang style Tai Chi Chuan extensively with Grandmaster William C. C. Chen (short form, long form, form refinement, sword form, and push-hands). Grandmaster Chen gave Marijke her Sifu title and certification in 2022 and his permission to share all his Tai Chi forms. She is currently teaching open dance classes at Peridance and Tai Chi Chuan classes throughout New York City and has been teaching Tai Chi for Dancers workshops in Amsterdam (Henny Jurriens Studio) and Berlin (b12).

CLASS DESCRIPTION

A physically demanding Contemporary class that incorporates technique, floor work, and efficient release and strengthening. Combining European and classical Modern techniques with a Contemporary flavor, Marijke's movement language and style of F teaching allows dancers to explore and own their individual voice and develop expressive power of pure emotion and physicality. Dancers are encouraged to make the movement material work for themselves, be creative, take chances, and dance to their fullest!

LEVEL: Marijke's contemporary class is geared towards Intermediate/Advanced Dancers.
