BIOGRAPHY

Katrina is an alumni of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy where she earned a degree in musical theater. Since graduation, she has continued to study modern dance at Alvin Ailey where she completed the Horton Pedagogy workshop with Ana Marie Forsythe in 2023. Over the past 6 years she has worked with Milton Myers, Katherine Nauman and JoLea Maffai, learning how to teach the technique in depth. She currently demonstrates for JoLea Maffai’s Horton class at Steps on Broadway and teaches a class of her own at Peridance. She has performed with several entertainment companies in the Tri-State area over the past few years and continues to perform ballet, contemporary, and modern pieces independently. Katrina is also a certified personal trainer and pilates instructor. Prior to moving to New York City, she taught ballet and jazz at the Landing Dance Academy in Cadillac Michigan.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Katrina Perrin’s modern class is based on Lester Horton’s iconic technique developed in the 1930’s. Since its inception, Horton technique has been regarded as one of the best methods to train a dancer’s body, developing strength, flexibility, and control. The technique encourages long, precise lines and geometric shapes that create a clear and organized body over time, allowing the dancer to make intentional choices in any style of dance. Katrina’s class begins with a thorough warm up consisting of classical modern studies, preludes, and fortifications in addition to new variations created at the Ailey school, her mentors, and herself. After the technique portion, she finishes class with choreography, challenging the students to marry technical excellence with bold artistry. Class is accompanied by a live musician to encourage students to focus on the musicality, connection, storytelling—and ultimately—bringing every step to life.
