BIOGRAPHY

Karina Elver was born in 1962 in Copenhagen, Denmark. She began to dance at the age of 3, and at 9 years old she was accepted as a ballet student at The Royal Danish Ballet School. In 1978 she was accepted as an apprentice at The Royal Danish Ballet and after 2 years she became a ballet dancer at The Royal Danish Ballet. During her time at The Royal Danish Ballet, she had many solo parts in several famous ballets by August Bournonville, Balanchine, Alvin Ailey and many more. In 1992 she started to create her own choreography. In 2003, after a wonderful career of 32 years, she decided to leave The Royal Theater to work as a freelance ballet teacher/choreographer/repetiteur and Bournonville specialist. Since 2011 Karina has been working in New York, and other States across the U.S, teaching and staging Bournonville ballets.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

As a teacher, I provide both young and experienced dancers with the opportunity to explore my technique. In my teaching, I focus on the technique behind the steps and the many details, which is hidden in them. I work with the natural grace, softness and strength in feet and legs (slow/fast), good placement and lengthening the body. The combinations are based on simplicity so the focus on the technique will be stronger.
