BIOGRAPHY
Julia Kane (she/her) is a dancer, teacher, and choreographer in NYC. With a vast knowledge and training in technical Jazz, Ballet, and Modern, her work emphasizes stylized reach and release on top of a strong technical foundation.
In 2021, Julia partnered with Broadway Dance Center to produce (sun)BURST, a celebratory performance to benefit Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. In collaboration with artists who have each faced a cancer diagnosis, BURST was created to bring light to the stories of growth within each individual's cancer journey, while raising awareness and funds for those who are still working through their own. The event was sold out in-person, and raised almost $5K for MSK Kids. In 2019, she choreographed and presented Cultivated Chaos, which sold out twice, and raised over $1k for MSKCC. Julia Kane Dance Collective premiered in 2018 at Jazz at Lincoln Center (Booking Dance Festival), just one day after Julia's final chemotherapy treatment for Lymphoma.
Along with her own choreographic and production work, Julia has worked as Associate Choreographer to Zanza Steinberg for ALMA NYC's debut of YELLOW, and had the pleasure of working with the company again for FECUND: A Virtual Gala, and PLACES. She has had the honor of assisting and learning from many of BDC’s renowned faculty and mentors throughout her training, including Michelle Barber, Sheila Barker, Ginger Cox, and Jamie Salmon.
Julia holds a BFA in dance, is a graduate of the BDC Professional Semester, and of Long Island HS for the Arts (under direction of Janice Aguilera and Shirlene Blake). As an educator, she has experience working with children as young as preschool age, as well as students of all ages with various physical and developmental disabilities. She has taught and choreographed for many studios in the surrounding NYC area, and for BDC's Children and Teens Program.
