BIOGRAPHY

Janice began her training in Orlando, Florida, where she first studied ballet and later tap, jazz and acrobatics. As a young adult her main focus became ballet which brought her to live in NYC where her main teacher became David Howard at Harkness House.

After dancing professionally for over twenty years in New York, Baltimore and nationwide as a free-lancer, she became a teacher and writer. Some of those notable schools are/were Harkness House, Steps on Broadway, Ballet Hispanico, Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, and currently Eglevsky Ballet and Pace University. Janice also has taught for numerous dance conventions such as Joe Tremaine, Dance Educators of America, Dance Masters of America, Dance Caravan, and Dance Makers. For over thirty years she has worked with Music Works (formerly Stepping Tones), a Los Angeles-based company that produces instructional dance videos and cd’s (there are new terms for those now) and has dance teacher workshops. Among the work she has produced for Music Works is a 9-level ballet syllabus.

Janice is well-known as the author of The Pointe Book, the Princeton Book Company’s popular book on pointe training and pointe shoes. The Fourth Edition will be available in 2020. It has also been published in Japanese.
