BIOGRAPHY

Jae Man Joo Started Classical Ballet training In South Korea, where he was born and raised. He has 20 years of experiences as a Classical Ballet Instructor. He Worked 10 years as Ballet Master for Complexions Contemporary Ballet, and 8 years as Associate Artistic Director for the company. Jae was a principal dancer at Complexions Contemporary Ballet and Ballet Hispanico. Also Has Worked With Shen Wei, Zvi Gotheiner, Igal Perry, Jessica Lang and among others. In 1996, He Received The Best Individual Artist Award From The Bagnolet International Dance Festival In Paris, France. In 2009 Jae was given The Princess Grace Award for Excellence in Choreography, and was appointed resident choreographer for Complexions Contemporary Ballet in 2006. during which he created six different works for the company. All of his works premiered at the prestigious Joyce theater in New York City. Tears (Rachmaninoff) in 2007, Surface (Debussy) in 2008, Atmosphere (Bach) in 2009, Flight (Bach) in 2012, In 2013, Jae premiered a his first full length work Recur (Richter, Silverstrov), a world premiere commissioned by Complexions Contemporary Ballet, at Aram Opera House in Korea, and NY Premiere at the Joyce Theater. Recur was performed in national and international tours in 2014, including DANCE OPEN International Ballet Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia. In the Spring of 2015, and in addition, in 2017 he created a Fifteen-century Korean landscape painting inspired work Goodnight (Arvo Pärt) for Complexions’ 24th anniversary season at the Joyce theater, marking his sixth ballet for the company. Jae Man Joo Created work Beautiful Imperfection (Nyman) Commissioned By Marymount Manhattan College Dance in 2015. And the same year he created Into The Light (Vivaldi) for Alvin Ailey/ Fordham BFA and also performed by PCDC. In 2016 he created a New Work Circular (Denisov, Handel) for Ailey II - Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. In 2017 Jae Man Joo invited to create a New work for Jacob's Pillow 85th Anniversary season and his new work Canvas which world premiered at the prestigious Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out stage. In 2018 He Reconstructed reimagined revival Into the Light music of Vivaldi, Performed by Point Park Univ Dance in Pittsburgh. In 2018 he created a brand new work Intermezzo for Wise Ballet Theater and premiered in Seoul, Korea. Recently he has created a new work for Contemporary program at Jacob's Pillow 2019. Title Dive & Unfold premiered at the prestigious Pillow Inside/Out stage.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

His technique class offers the intermediate/Advanced/ professional dancer an explorative approach to classical ballet technique that incorporates the full upper body combined with precise foot work. His approach to dance encourages the dancer to work smart and hard within the framework of traditional ballet with an emphasis on developing strength and appreciation of musicality, while they enjoy the basics of learning ballet movement. His Ballet class is recommended for CLASSICAL DANCERS who want learn the artistry of moving more freely with special attention to developing a dynamic torso. MODERN DANCERS who want to be stronger while developing more precise movement will enjoy taking class with Joo, who is a former principal dancer for a professional contemporary dance companies. He spent many years as Associate Artistic Director of Complexions Contemporary Ballet and Received the prestigious Princess Grace Choreography Award.
