BIOGRAPHY

A Director, Choreographer, Producer, Teacher, and Performer, Emily Bufferd is quite accomplished for her young age.

Emily is the Artistic Director of BEings dance, and the Producer of The Young Choreographer’s Festival, an annual event held at Symphony Space in NYC presenting the most up and coming 18-25 year old choreographers.

Her work with BEings has been presented at The Ailey Citigroup Theater, City Center, Joyce SoHo, Dance New Amsterdam, MMAC, Judson Dance Theater, the 92nd St. Y, and The World Financial Center’s Winter Garden to name a few. BEings has also been invited to perform and teach abroad in Scotland and Africa.

As a performer, Emily has been seen on The View with recording artist Outkast, at Lincoln Center, in Carnival ‘The Choreographer’s Ball’, the International Dance Festival, and at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Variety Arts Theater, Hollywood PAC, and The Kravis Center. She can be seen in videos for World Dance Movement – The International Workshop, and was an assistant To Michele Assaf at Tanec bez Hranic in the Czech Republic.

Emily has been featured in many publications; online and in print. In Dance.com’s article ‘Putting Ideas Into Action’ regarding her work with The Young Choreographer’s Festival “For Bufferd, the whole thing is about helping dancers cultivate their creative talent.”

She, along with BEings has also been featured in The NY Times as a part of WestFest’s Site Specific Performances, as well as being seen on Prodiligo.com, “What seems most evident during Emily Bufferd’s rehearsal is that her dancers trust her…. completely.”

Emily has served on the selection committees for the 2010 and 2012 Dumbo Dance Festivals and White Wave’s Wave Rising Series, has been a guest host for the HATCH Presenting Series at Jennifer Muller/The Works Studio, and has taught open classes at the Peridance Center and The Ailey Extension in NYC.

She has worked with recording artists Nisha Asnani, and SK8 for live performance and can be found choreographing and teaching in NYC, around the country, and abroad. She is the Co-Executive Director of APAP at the Peridance Center and is currently working on several upcoming projects.
