BIOGRAPHY

Camille A. Brown attended Bernice Johnson and Carolyn Devore Dance Studios, graduated from LaGuardia H.S. of the Performing Arts, and received her B.F.A. in Dance from The University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She was a member of Ronald K. Brown/Evidence (2001-2007) and has been a guest performer with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (2008, 2011), Rennie Harris/Puremovement (2008-present), and with the cast of The Color Purple for Broadway Cares w/ choreography by Darrell Grand Moultrie.
She is the first woman to be awarded The Princess Grace Award for Choreography, and has also received a NYFA Fellowship in Choreography, The Project Next Generation Award, and The Presidential Scholar of the Arts Award. Ms. Brown has received commissions from AAADT, Hubbard Street II, Urban Bush Women, Ailey II, Ballet Memphis, Dallas Black, and Philadanco- among others. Her work has been showcased at Sadler's Wells (London, England), The Apollo, The Joyce Theater, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Central Park's Summerstage, Dance Theater Workshop, Symphony Space, Dancenow Festival, and New York Fall for Dance Festival (City Center). Other performances include Dancing From The Heart and The Fire Island Dance Festival- annual benefits produced by Dancer's Responding To AIDS (DRA). She also choreographed a duet for Tony nominated artist Karine Plantadit and Danny Tidwell for The Youth American Grand Prix Gala (City Center) and for New York Fashion Week in 2008 for Saverio Paletella's line, WholeGarment 3D. She is currently choreographing for The Foundry Theater produced musical, Pins & Needles, and the new musical Fortress Of Solitude. This year, Brown's company (Camille A. Brown & Dancers) debuts at Bates Festival (July) and returns to Jacob's Pillow (Aug) and The Joyce Theater (Jan 2012).

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Ms. Brown's class includes a warmup, followed by a rep portion which focuses on discovering ways to color movement dynamic in an effort to challenge the dancer's artistic landscape and approach to the art of dance.
