BIOGRAPHY
Bo Kyung Lee is a choreographer, dancer, and artistic director of BK Dance Project (@bkdance_2011). She received her Ph.D. from The Department of Living Dance and Performing Arts at Hayang University in South Korea in 2011. Lee received the “Gold Medal” from the Contemporary Dance Competition at the Contemporary Dance Association of Korea(2002), “The Presidential Prize” at the 7th Nagano International Performance Competition in Japan (2005) “Best dancer Prize”(2007) and “Best Repertory Prize”(2009) from the Performing Arts & Film Reviews(PAF), as well as “2011 Dance Vision-New Dancer Award” at The Modern Dance Promotion of Korea(2011), “First Prize” at the International Contest for the Mature Contemporary Dance Soloist in Mexico City(2018).
Lee has various teaching experience: Contemporary Dance, ages 17-19 years old(Jeonju Fine arts High School, 2004-2006), lyric dance, ages 17-19 years old(Korea Art High School, 2005), Contemporary and Modern dance, ages 20-23 years old(Hanyang University, 2005-2011), Contemporary Dance, ages 10-13 years old(Peridance Junior intensive summer camp, 2020), ballet for 4-7 years old and contemporary dance for 7-9 years old(PSW PERFORMING ARTS INC, 2021-2022; FA Dance Company, 2022-present), and lyric dance for ages 8-9 years old, Off stretching & core class for Synchronized Ice Skaters in Skyline team, ages 5-13 years old(FA Dance Company, 2022- Present). Lee has taught workshops Hangul: Korean alphabet dance at Rutgers University(2009), Contemporary dance for theater arts students at Ithaca College(2012), New New Yorker- Korean folk dance at Queens Museum(2015), Dune Dance Company for children at a Youth Center in Burgas, Bulgaria (2019), Absolute Beginner workshop for contemporary dance at Peridance Center(2023), Pine Plains public schools(2023).
CLASS DESCRIPTION
In this contemporary dance class, students of beginner level will explore a style of expressive dance movement that combines elements of modern dance, ballet, jazz, and lyrical. Students will be led through a full body warm-up to increase flexibility and strength. The class will be focused on not only how to express emotion in motion by practicing choreography that have a theme but also how to understand continuous movements by exploring action and reaction.
