"I tried other Salsa schools in New York but BAILA Society is my favorite. As soon as I stepped through the door they made me feel comfortable and went out of their way to make sure I was learning at my own pace. - Byron F."
CLASS DESCRIPTION
Open Fundamentals of Salsa Partnerwork:
This class will focus on foundational concepts and techniques for effectively leading and following in salsa partnerwork. Unlike our other partnerwork classes, where we work on specific partnerwork patterns, this class will provide an in-depth examination of timing, momentum, direction, and connection - concepts that are required for all partnerwork figures. We will also introduce spinning techniques. There is no need to bring a partner. Although this class is listed as open level, knowledge of basic salsa figures is strongly recommended. If you have taken and feel comfortable in our intro/beginner classes, this class is appropriate for you.
Beginner Salsa Partnering:
This class is appropriate for absolute beginners as well as those with some salsa experience looking to review and advance their skill level. BAILA Society will provide a thorough and authentic introduction to New York style salsa, also called "mambo" and "salsa on 2". You will learn fundamental footwork, turns, and lead/follow partnering techniques as well as the rich cultural history behind each move. Our instructors will guide you through the social etiquette of salsa dancing, preparing you for a fun night at the club after just your first class! There is no need to bring a partner.
Beginner Salsa Femme:
In this class, you will learn how to add feminine styling to salsa and develop your own personal style. We will use focused drills and short choreographed sequences to develop salsa body movement, arm styling, and footwork. We will also explore feminine approaches to improvisation. Dancers of all genders are welcome! Knowledge of the basic salsa steps taught in our Intro level classes are recommended prior to joining Salsa Femme.
Intro & Beginner Salsa Partnering:
We will be teaching two levels simultaneously during this session: one for absolute beginners and another for those with some salsa experience looking to review and advance their skill level.
Open Salsa Partnering:
BAILA Society is known worldwide for its dynamic and innovative partnerwork style, developed right here in New York City! This class will focus on complex partnerwork figures, including lead/follow technique, spinning, musicality, and improvisation. Our instructors will introduce practice drills to improve your skills and then apply those concepts directly to short partnerwork patterns. This class will give you the confidence to execute improvised partnerwork on the dance floor! Dancers of all levels are welcome to join. There is no need to bring a partner.
