Cristian Laverde König was born in Cali, Colombia, and received his professional training
at the Instituto Colombiano de Ballet (Incolballet), where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in
Classical Ballet, and furthered his studies at the Escuela Nacional de Ballet de Cuba under full
scholarship. He has been a Soloist for the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, Ballet de Cali, Hartford
Ballet, and Ballet Internationale, and appeared as a Principal Dancer for the Maximum Dance
Company, the Milwaukee Ballet, and the Slovak National Ballet. Mr. König has performed
repertoire ranging from principal roles in classical ballets such as Don Quixote, Coppélia, Swan
Lake, and La Bayadère, to works by world-renowned choreographers such as George
Balanchine, Anthony Tudor, Twyla Tharp, Martha Graham, Karole Armitage, and Nacho Duato.
In addition, Mr. König has created roles in premiering works by choreographers such as Maurice
Causey and Karole Armitage among many others. As a freelance, Mr. König has been an integral
part of companies such as iMEE, TCDP, TRDT, and Armitage Gone! Dance, the latter in which
he has been the tenant of the role of Rehearsal Director for the last several years. In this role, Mr.
König has been instrumental in taking charge of rehearsals, training and coaching artists, as well
as teaching company class and assisting with restaging of repertoire and staging premieres. Mr.
König has been the recipient of various prestigious national and international awards and is
currently a freelance artist residing in New York City.
