    Karen Ng

    Hip- Hop

    Biography:

Karen Ng is a dancer, choreographer and teacher based in Brooklyn, New York. Born in Hong Kong and raised in New Zealand. She began her dance training at the early age of 3 with Ballet, Tap and Jazz before progressing to Hip Hop dancing and producing shows with her college dance team Triple8Funk, winning a DANZ award. After completing her Pharmacy degree she longed to continue training and dancing and eventually came to NYC to study at Broadway Dance Center for commercial choreography (Luam, Rhapsody, Jared Grimes, Dana Foglia). After immersing herself in the club scene she then studied specific street styles such as Waacking, House, Hip Hop and Popping with Princess Lockerooo, Cebo, Katalyst and many more. She has performed for Midsummer Night Swing at Lincoln Center, Summerstage Central Park, Afropunk Festival, One Mic: World Hip Hop Festival at the Kennedy Center, and her choreography has been selected for Ladies of Hip Hop Festival, Uptown Bounce with Mobile Mondays!, UDL, Leg Up On Life amongst others. Karen teaches with Mark Morris Dance Group, NJPAC and Everybody Dance Now, and is a guest instructor for NYU Tisch Open Arts.

    Class Description:

Class starts with a fun, upbeat dance cardio warm up, followed by dynamic stretches. Following warm up we will focus on a few specific dance moves and exercises across the floor. Next, we learn set choreography elaborating on the moves used in our exercises, focusing on musicality, spatial awareness and performance. Class ends with a freestyle party cypher, where each participant has a chance to shine!
