Slowdanger
Contemporary
Biography:
Anna Thompson and Taylor Knight, choreographers, musicians and performing artists, are co- founders slowdanger. As a multidisciplinary performance duo, slowdanger fuses sound and movement through improvised contemporary and postmodern dance frameworks. We use found material, electronic instrumentation, vocalization, physiological centering, and ontological examination to produce our performance work. The more we engage in this collaborative work, the more we recognize the manifestation of our work as a non-binary entity that is one body amassed of multiple bodies in space. Within this system, we work with an engaged and deepened understanding of energy, synergy, action, gender, time, and storytelling. slowdanger has been featured at/in Springboard Danse Montreal, Dance Magazine’s ‘ 25 to Watch’, Sidra Bell Dance New York’s MODULE, MovementInventionProject, Links Hall Chicago, The Andy Warhol Museum, BAAD!, CPR and The Carnegie Museum of Art.Class Description:
SLOWDANGER PHYSICAL INTEGRATION (SPI) Anna
slowdanger & Taylor slowdanger’s ‘SPI’ is an
explorational movement experience accompanied by
an evolving sound score. Inspired by their studies in
somatic practices, BodyMindCentering, Laban
Movement Analysis, Movement Theater, Corporeal
Mime, improvisational methodologies and
compositional studies, slowdanger guides participants
to investigate non-verbal processing mechanisms
through movement, groove, and sensory stimulus. SPI
is designed as an open-level practice. It challenges
participants to explore connections to body, sound,
and their environment. These connections are used to
play, investigate, and regenerate.
