Stephen Pier has been a trusted company teacher for
Company Wayne McGregor,
Random Dance, Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, Alvin
Ailey, Introdans, Scapino
Ballet, and many others. His approach to teaching Ballet as
a way of developing the
human expressive movement potential is informed through
his work with many of
today’s leading choreographers as well as his unique
experience in both classical ballet
and modern dance. His studies at The Juilliard School and
other studios in NYC lead him
to careers with the Royal Danish Ballet, the Hamburg Ballet,
and the José Limón
Company as well as collaborating as a guest artist with
several contemporary companies
in NYC, Europe, and Japan. Stephen’s creative engagement
led him to choreograph
works for the Hamburg Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, New
National Theater (Japan), Alvin
Ailey School, Atlanta Ballet School, Juilliard Dance
Ensemble, SUNY-Purchase, and
many theater and opera productions around the world. He
directed American Ballet
Theater’s innovative Voices and Visions/Women
Choreographers initiative. Stephen was
a master teacher on the faculty of the Juilliard School for 14
years and is currently the artistic director
of the Hartt School Dance Division at the University of
Hartford while maintaining an
international guest teaching schedule.
